Bio

Stacy Seiler is a practicing artist, writer, and Assistant Professor of First-Year, Strategic Design & Management, Summer Intensive and Pre-College programs at Parsons School of Design. Her passion for teaching first began in 2005 following a 7-year career as a web designer and programmer specializing in the corporate identity and branding of Fortune 500 companies. In 2012 Stacy was honored as a finalist for the New School’s University Distinguished Teaching Award.

As the Art Editor of IRK Magazine, Paris, Stacy produces feature articles on cutting edge designers worldwide. She previously worked as a Contributing Writer of arts and culture at Downtown Magazine, NY and as a Docent of History and Preservation at Judd Foundation. Stacy has exhibited both nationally and internationally over the past 20 years, and her work is represented by Catherine Weinstock Design in New York.

  • Responsible for the layout and production of feature articles in both print and web media for a fashion photography publication distributed in 10 countries worldwide.
  • Interview cutting-edge designers and produce original content discussing their practice.
  • Develop publication themes and produce design and layout concepts with the editors-in-chief.
  • Scout new designers and anticipate trends that set the magazine's overall visual style.

  • Assistant Professor within the Departments of Strategic Design and Management, First-Year Programs and Summer, Pre-College and Continuing Education
  • Instructed 100+ Undergraduate courses, including: Drawing I + II, Painting, Information Design, Typography, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Product Design, Design Research + Iteration, Web Design, Portfolio Development, etc.

  • 2009-16, Curriculum Coordinator of the Summer Intensive Studies, Design Studio Course, for which I develop a comprehensive introduction to 2-D & 3-D design fields of study for senior-level high school students preparing for college admissions, manage a of team of faculty and implement methods for supporting ESL students.

  • 2010-16, Coordinator, Summer Intensive Studies Visiting Lecturer Series, for which I organize a 3-part lunchtime lecture series comprised of professionals paired with recent Parsons graduates in the fields of Communication, Fashion and Product Design. Notable lecturers: Chip Kidd, Ellen Lupton, Jordin Isip.

  • 2015, Faculty Representative, Fulbright Review Committee, for which I reviewed and interviewed Parsons applicants in support of their nomination to the grant committee.

  • 2013-14, Faculty Representative, Assessment of Student Learning Committee, for which I analyzed the annual program reports for each department at The New School and supported student learning assessment for the Provost Office.

  • 2005-12, Coordinator, Parsons Scholars Program, for which I developed and orchestrated an intensive, three-year, art and design college preparatory curriculum, annually mentoring 16 low-income NYC public high school students that demonstrate exceptional talent and motivation in the arts.
    • Built alliances with multiple non-profit organizations to produce collaborative programming with senior scholars, allowing their design projects to be realized within the NYC community.
    • Produced a unique curriculum each semester, exposing scholars to the art and design community of NYC through visiting artist lectures, interactive workshops and studio visits.
    • Developed a college preparatory curriculum that included: SAT prep, portfolio development and documentation, college application preparation and essay writing, scholarship searches, college visits, National Portfolio Day access, and admissions and financial aid information sessions, including one-on-one counseling with each scholar.
    • Managed 6 undergraduate mentors that worked directly with the scholars to support their senior year curriculum and college application process.
    • Annually produced a comprehensive, 30-page report detailing the program growth, course curriculum, group progress and individual analysis of each scholar.
2008-09, Faculty Representative, L.I.S.A. (Low Income Student Alliance), for which I worked with New School University students to research options for financial funding, construct letters to the University President and organize meetings with the Deans and Provost to create support for low-income students throughout the University.
